Love - Art - Disease - Pain - Life-Humanness - "Otherness" In our desensitised society, the artists, the bohemians, poor, discarded, "others", recovering addicts - all are more in touch with their human-ness than the so called mainstream. Despite everything - HUMANNESS, LOVE, LIFE, ART survives. -Jonathan Larson

Welcome, Foolish Mortals...

Now, we've all heard about (and actually ridden) Disney rides that are based on some of their most popular movies, but recently they've been riding a trendy tide of transforming their theme park attractions into movies. The spawn of this unforseen monster was The Tower of Terror, a made-for-television movie that aired back in 1997 with Kirsten Dunst and Steve Guttenburg. Disney's first delve into the major motion picture territory was last year's The Country Bears , which was a major flop at the box office. This summer, they're releasing Pirates of the Carribean, and with Johnny Depp heading up the cast, there is no mistaking that it will be a true summer hit.
The movie that I'm looking forward to most is THE HAUNTED MANSION, due out this Fall. At first, when I heard that Eddie Murphy was starring, I was wicked skeptical and I thought "Jinkies...this is gonna be another Dr. Doolittle". But now that I'm starting to read more about the movie in it's latest incarnation (and I've actually got a friend that's IN the movie)...my opinions are soon turning around. This movie seems like it will be THE QUINTESSENTIAL Disney movie that's been made since Walt's death in 1966. I've read an early draft of the script, and things have changed since it was written. The detail and authenticity to be faithful to the premise and look of the ride is all there...but on a MUCH bigger scale! This is a HUGE deal, folks! I suppose that I'm just giddy that one of my favorite attractions is getting such fanfare lately. Here is a neat article from doombuggies.com which gives you an idea at the MASSIVE sets and MAJOR undertaking that this movie truly is:

The grass is only greener where it's watered...

Well, in my life, anyway. Forgive me for being pretentious, but when people talk about the 'other side'...they're referring to MY side. How could anything be any greener right now? I think that most people have the wrong idea about relationships in general. My clench-jawed, personal cynicism hasn't stood in the way of my perpetual optimism only because it has been proven to me that I can love again. I can lose again, too...obviously...but I seem to understand more now. About people and lives and behaviour and all that snazzy stuff we really don't keep in check when our hearts control our heads.
I, myself, have only been in two serious relationships. There was a distinct difference between getting over the first love and moving on from the second. Maybe it all has to do with the way it all falls in the end. All I know is that I'm a lot stronger than I thought I could ever be.
I firmly believe that life is way too important to be taken seriously. The couple that play's together...stays together. I've learned to bite my tongue. I have learned to elimate the words "always, every, never and forever" from my mutual dialogue and I have ALWAYS recognized change as process and progress. ALL serious relationships move into routine, eventually. Sitting around and wondering "Is this it or can I get more?" is only human, but only to the relationship neophyte. Many people believe that "love" is the most important key to the survival of a relationship. Love IS vital, don't get me wrong...but I've learned that it takes many forms...and evolves over time. Infatuation, passion, deep trust, sex and comfortable familiarity and physical notions could all fit within someone's perspective of love. To my way of thinking, tolerance and acceptance are more reliable keys to sustaining a successful relationship. No two people agree on everything, nor find all their partners’ habits acceptable...nevermind finding those habits loveable. Tolerance, for the most part, makes it possible to see past the bad junk, into the heart of the relationship where acceptance abides and love endures.
On another note...I'm quickly making my way down the scale. I'll be on the cover of Abercrombie & Fitch by August! That is if I don't get caught up in another book-publishing crunch! It seems that every time I buy a smaller size pair of pants...it's time to go get yet ANOTHER size smaller!

Random Thoughts:

• McDonald's California Cobb Salad with Grilled Chicken rocks.

• Dream Catcher was a pretty good movie...and definitly deserves more credit than it's gotten.

• Edith Flack Ackley is an aspiring new inspiration in my life.

• Is it time for a vacation yet?

John's favorite song of the day:

Don't Dream It's Over

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're travelling with me

Chorus
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only the shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win

-Neil Finn

Well, that's about it from this guy.
